Teotihuacan: “Where Man becomes God”

June 13th, 2008

Eights years ago I was upside down, dangling by my feet from the top of the Pyramid of the Sun in the amazing ancient city of Teotihuacn, Mexico. It was not your average dangling; I had a morbid fear of heights and barely made it to the top of the massive structure that day. Never did I believe I would trust someone to hang me by my feet off the side of such a high place! But, in the end, I did and I let go of my fear of heights and a few other fears in the bargain. My gratitude for this experience was beyond measure as this miracle was not what I had expected when I signed up for this adventure. To be honest, the things I experienced I could have never imagined even in my wildest dreams! Just to clarify things, this was my first power journey with Toltec master don Miguel Ruiz, and climbing the Pyramid was the culmination of my five day voyage to this incredible city. Even more importantly, as I stood on the top of the Pyramid merging with the sun, I experienced the true presence of my inner spirit and my heart for the first time in my life.

The magnificent ruins of the ancient Toltec city of Teotihuacn are approximately 40 minutes northeast of Mexico City and one mile high in altitude. The Toltec were not a religious or racial group, rather they were humans who practiced a certain philosophy of life. According to don Miguel, Teotihuacn was a huge university dedicated to the transcendence of humanity. The layout of the city was modeled on the image of a long double-headed snake; one head on each end of its body. The apprentice would progress down the Avenue of the Dead, the body of the snake, section by section after entering the first plaza. Though this process, the snake digested all of the student’s lies and beliefs that were limiting the full expression of their Spirit. As a result, they died to everything they believed about themselves and their world.

Lifetimes were spent letting go of all the boundaries man has put upon himself through the domestication of his mind. When there was finally nothing left of the student’s personality, ego, and domestication they became what they really were; the divine expression of Love or Spirit. After finally exiting the body of the snake, the apprentice would climb the Pyramid of the Sun and, using the energy of the structure, would merge and become one with the light. Under the tutelage of masters, these apprentices would pass through the different sections of the snake until they had completed their training and transcended their physical bodies and earthly dream.

For years don Miguel and the apprentices he personally trained, myself included, have taken thousands of seekers to this wonderful city. I have watched hundreds of people come on these journeys stressed, confused, and wishing for something more in their lives, hoping to find what is missing. By the end of the journey their faces are glowing, they are relaxed, and they have clarity about the direction they are going in life. Even more importantly, they have a glimpse of the divinity that they truly are and the wonderment of that experience. It is a miracle to see people recognize themselves as the magical beings that they are and to take full responsibility for what they have created in their lives. After leaving the journey, they choose to use their magic to create beauty, love, and joy in their world rather than anger, frustration, fear, and drama.

When we journey to Teotihuacn we do not travel as tourists to take pictures of the ruins, look at, and climb the Pyramids. We go to experience the dream of the city as it was thousands of years ago and to connect with the intent of the place itself. Teotihuacn was built with the intent to transform the dream of the humans from one of fear to one of love and to assist us in detaching from the beliefs we have that do not serve our higher good. Our ceremonies, rituals, and activities on the grounds of the city are designed to access this energy directly. Because of this, our transformational process work is made more intense but easier as a result of tapping into the spirit of the sacred site itself. Miracles occur in Teotihuacn if your heart and mind are open to receive what the universe has available for you.

You are probably wondering what possessed me to go on this journey in the first place. Just like so many of you, I had reached a point in my life where I was so unhappy I felt like I could not go on another day. Feeling dead, like a robot repeating its boring daily activities, I could not believe this was my life. I had many moments of happiness of course, but I could not say that I was happy inside. Systematically I kept changing my outer circumstances thinking that would fix things, never realizing what needed to be fixed was me! At the time I was a practicing Podiatrist of 16 years and director of a surgical residency program. I had a wonderful home, career, car, and friends. But I did not have a healthy relationship with a partner, nor did I have a healthy relationship with myself!

Upon reading don Miguel’s book, The Four Agreements, I decided to give the Toltec path a chance. Teotihuacn is where I discovered that nothing outside of me was ever the problem in my life. What was preventing me from enjoying my life was my programming and all the limiting beliefs I had about myself and my world. From that point on I started to dismantle those beliefs and started living my life according to my heart and my integrity instead of what I had been taught in the domestication of my life.

As a result, I sold my home, my stuff, and my practice, broke up with my boyfriend, and traveled west to apprentice with don Miguel. It has been a challenging process to be sure, but one I would not have traded for anything in the world. Of course, you do not need to sell your home and travel to do accomplish this; you can do it wherever you are, no matter what your circumstances may be. And believe me, if I could change my life, you can too! No written description can substitute for your own magical experience of this place. I invite each of you to come and feel the energy of Teotihuacn for yourselves. Come and gain the tools of awareness needed to make the necessary changes in your life. Create a dream of love rather than one of fear. Take a chance and transform your life, discover the light within you and expand your ideas about who you are and what you can be.

Discover the Best Caterers in the UK

June 10th, 2008

In the early 90’s it was registered that the capital had no exact way of advocating & rating Mediterranean restaurants. An idea was suspected to create a food publication which would be teeming with delightful London restaurants including Turkish restaurants plus a range of price tags. The eating guide would be in the shape of a slight pocket food review publication which would make it effortless to carry all over the place with you. Hardens have the best London Caterers for hire.

What makes the eating guides so unique and different from any other restaurant guide is the fact that the places to eat are enjoyed by everyday people, not accomplished eating reviewers. After the victory of the eating guide, later followed the victory of the food review website, The review website itself can tell you practically anything you need to consider about pretty much any Korean restaurants in London, it’s easy to navigate around & has an incredible search region where you just have to put in the name of the Eastern restaurants & what area it is in and food review website will find it for you.

The website itself has 3 separate sections in all, London Restaurants, UK eateries and Venues & Parties. the English capital and United Kingdom restaurants are pretty self explanatory, venues and parties is a bit that offers venue & service hire.

Parties and Events is all based on striving to make organising a party or perhaps an event as straightforward as possible. the eatiries have options to help you with everything along with suggestions on what they believe will work well and added extras. The 1st sub section is the venue searcher, with this all you have to do is enter your county and the venue capacity that would suit you and it can bring up all the venues and halls. There is also a services finder so if you are looking for Cambridge Caterers to cater your hen party then Hardens is presently able to make ideas for you. Other options consist of corporate event entertainment, food & drink, costume hire & other essentials.

Social Skills and Friendship: What are the Signs of a True Friend?

May 25th, 2008

The best kinds of people to have around you are the caring kind. They are what we think of as ‘true’ friends. Getting to know who’s who can be most interesting and sometimes most challenging.

This advice is universal. It fits for anyone of any age when making decisions about who to bring into your life and heart as a friend. However, these tips are stated in a way that will be especially helpful for tweens and teens as well as for kids and adults with ADHD, Autism or Asperger Syndrome. These tips will be useful for those who have a difficult time picking up the cues and clues that give them the ‘Go!’ or the ‘No!’ when it comes to friendship.

Here are eight tips to guide you to recognize a true friend:

1. Do you feel your friend cares about what you have to say? A real friend pays attention while you are talking and asks questions if he or she does not fully understand your situations or feeling before giving advice about it.

2.True friends are interested in what is good for you not for what you can give to them or do for them. A true friend would advise you to do only what is safe, smart and helpful to you. It helps sometimes to see if other people you like and respect also like your new friend.

3. Do you ever feel pressure to do something you don’t want to do? If you feel this way, it is your true friends who can help you sort out how to be yourself, do the right thing and still be a part of the crowd.

4. If you make a mistake, a true friend helps you feel better. A true friend does not make you feel dumb, gossip to others or criticize you.

5. A true friend gives you space and privacy if you want it. You don’t have to explain or wonder if your friend will be upset if you prefer to do something your own way, on your own time.

6. When you have problem, a true friend encourages you to find people you trust to help you take the right steps to solve it. to tell you to talk to an adult or with the right experience.

7. True friends understand how much you can do. If your parents don’t permit you to go out on school nights, a true friend will stick by you when you can be together.

8. A true friend lets you have other friends. You don’t have to worry about a true friend getting upset if you spend time with someone else. There are so many different ways youcan spend time with people. You might have a certain friend who loves to play basketball with you and other friends who are your movie or concert friends. This does not mean dropping your friend for something else. Real friends have mutual respect and make room for each other to do what they want.

This guide is also a good way to evaluate how good a friend you are to others!

Teacher Tips: Organizing Your ADHD Students

May 23rd, 2008

Thank you to all of our professional educators who dedicate themselves to our children! We know how difficult it can be working with ADHD children, so here are your teacher tips for the week, brought to you by the ADHD Information Library and ADDinSchool.com. You can read over 500 classroom interventions at http://www.ADDinSchool.com.

Here are some tips on Organizing Your ADHD Students:

See what you can do to help organize the ADHD child’s environment. Use dividers and folders in his desk so he can easily find things. Teach him how to organize himself better. These are skills that he does not know, and needs to learn.

Help the child to organize his written work or numbers. Allow the child to move a pencil or his finger across the page while reading. If he’s writing, allow him to use one or two fingers for spacing between words. During math, graph paper may be very helpful to organize his numbers and columns.

Your student will function better when able to anticipate times requiring increased concentration. A visual representation of the day’s schedule will provide another opportunity to internalize classroom routine.

Completing school work and maintaining behavior during the school day can be exhausting experiences. Large homework loads on a regular basis can become discouraging for him and very stressful for the parent involved. Attempt to have homework reduced, if possible, and limited to guided practice on material that he has begun to master. Attempt to break down long?term assignments into steps to lessen your student’s feeling overwhelmed. Consider having the student complete every third problem, instead of answering each one.

Emphasize practice and assignment completion on the word processor to lower the frustration many students feel with written work.

Model an organized classroom and model the strategies you use to cope with disorganization.

Establish a daily classroom routine and schedule. Show that you value organization by following 5 minutes each day for the children to organize their desks, folders, etc. Reinforce organization by having a “desk fairy” that gives a daily award for the most organized row of desks.

Use individual assignment charts or pads that can go home with the child to be signed daily by parents if necessary. Develop a clear system for keeping track of completed and uncompleted work such as having individual hanging files in which each child can place completed work and a special folder for uncompleted work.

Develop a color coding method for your room in which each subject is associated with a certain color that is the that subjects textbook cover and on the folder or workbook for that subject.

Develop a reward system for in-school work and homework completion. One example of a system that reinforces both work quality and work quantity involves translating points earned into “dollars” to be used for silent auction at the end of grading period. For children needing more immediate reinforcement, each completed assignment could earn the child a “raffle ticket” with her/his name on it . Prizes or special privileges could be awarded on the basis of a random drawing held daily or weekly.

Write schedule and timelines on the board each day. Provide due dates for assignments each day. Divide longer assignments into sections and provide due dates or times for the completion of each section.

Tape a checklist to the child’s desk or put one in each subject folder/notebook that outlines the steps in following directions or checking to be sure an assignment is complete. Provide study guides or outlines of the content you want the child to learn, or let the child build her/his own study guide with worksheets tat have been positively corrected.

Be clear about when student movement is permitted and when it is discouraged, such as during independent work times.

Your student should be encouraged to utilize assignment sheets, broken down by day and subject. He or his teachers can record assignments at the completion of each task. An organizing time at the end of each day can be helpful to gather the necessary materials for the assignments and develop a plan of action for completion. This will greatly aid the development of the “executive processes.”

Your student can become overwhelmed with floods of paper and be unable to find the needed materials. It is often helpful to carry only two work folders, one that contains work to be completed and one with work to be filed. Reviewing these work folders should become a regular part of the daily routine, with irrelevant work removed.
Some students now take a small dose of their medication when they come home from school to aid in studying/homework completion. Check with the doctor about the time period of maximum medication effectiveness to help set?up a sensible homework schedule.

Quite often, variability in work performance will be related to the teacher’s style and your student’s temperament. Teachers tend to instruct using their own preferential learning style. Sequential teachers may help by providing more structure for him but the teacher may become frustrated with his disorganization and behavior. Random teachers, while not providing external structure, may be more likely to utilize flexibility in adjusting to his needs. Attempt to place your student with teachers who have similar styles that have proven effective for their particular needs. Some teachers have received training in dealing with students with attentional problems that would make them a particularly effective resource.

One of the simplest interventions with the most power is to have an extra set of textbooks at home to minimize the problem of not having the necessary homework materials.
Since fine motor activities and spelling can be a problem, consider a major emphasis on using a word processor at an early age. Software to practice keyboarding should have stimulating graphics to motivate their use. Using a “spell check” program is critical.

Along with the “executive process” of organizing for homework at the end of the day, a daily check-in time at the beginning of the school day can be helpful in preparing for a successful day. Checking the previous night’s homework, highlighting changes in the daily schedule, and even pre?teaching some of the lessons for the day can ease stress.
Your student should have a regularly scheduled time for cleaning his desk at least once a week. This will improve his ability to find his materials. It may, however, require the assistance/instruction of an adult to make this a successful experience.

Hopefully these will help the ADHD students in your classroom to be more successful. You can learn more about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder at the ADHD Information Library.

Special Report: What Do IQ Tests and the SAT Measure, and Where Does EQ Fit In?

May 20th, 2008

I was telling a therapist the other day about someone’s score on
the SAT. “Oh,” he said, waving his hand in dismissal, “THAT
thing. It doesn’t measure a THING.”

Let’s set the record state. What he meant was - (1) It doesn’t
measure anything he cared about, or (2) It doesn’t measure
anything that need slow the person down. But it definitely
measures SOMETHING, and if you’re the HR person reviewing test
scores, or the coach reviewing assessments, or the taker looking
at your own results, or the college admission officer, it’s
important to know what a test or assessment DOES measure.

The SAT - Scholastic Aptitude Test - measures aptitude for
college work and SAT scores have been shown to correlate with
success as a college freshman (only). It consists of tests in
Verbal Ability and Mathematical Reasoning.

To refresh your memory, go here http://www.the-big-test.com
ests/index.htm - and take some of the sample tests. What’s your
first reaction? For me, the Sentence Completions are fun. Then I
came to Critical Reading Questions and suddenly felt a need to
make a sandwich. Then came the “if one train leaves the station
at 4 p.m. heading east at 5 mph…” and preparing a 6-course meal
seemed more imperative.

I think it measures your ability to withstand torture. The test
lasts 3 hours and requires incredible concentration. 3 hours,
after all, is an eternity to a high school student. It may
measure more in the testing, than in the knowledge, if you know
what I mean. You have to sit down and read carefully something
that’s irrelevant, just because it’s required. And many the
college students feel that way about freshman year in college!

It’s also an endurance test. It gets harder as you go along,
because your brain gets more tired.

BRIEF HISTORY

The SAT has been called “the 50-year-old system that determines
the course of Americans’ lives.” This sort of college admission
testing began in 1901, but it didn’t really kick in until the U.
Cal. System adopted it in 1960.

Is it biased? It’s been dubbed the “Survey of Affluent
Teenagers,” and the debate rages, but you might be interested to
know that a homeless teenager in California, who had been
completely home-schooled, just scored a perfect 800/800 on the
SAT: ( http://www.thekcrachannel.com/news/574672/detail.html )

It’s believed to have gotten easier over the years; however the
nation’s high school class of 2003 achieved the highest score on
the math section since 1967.

ABOUT THE ARTS …

According to The College Entrance Examination Board, “students
of the arts continue to outperform their non-arts peers on the
SAT.” [Source: http://www.menc.org/information/advocate/sat.html
]. In 2002, “SAT takers with coursework/experience in music
performance scored 57 points higher on the verbal and 41 points
higher on the math than students without.” This is one reason
the arts are encouraged in The EQ Foundation Course©.

Does it relate to anything else in life? Not unless you think
focus, perseverance, and being willing (and able) to do
something mental that’s hard and unpleasant in order to earn a
delayed reward do.

So the optimal word there is “aptitude.” “Aptitude” according to
m-w.com means inclination, tendency; a natural ability; a
capacity for learning; or a general suitability. In this case,
one’s general suitability for college, and that it has been
statistically proven to do.

IQ

Now what does it mean if someone has “a high IQ”? It stands for
Intelligence Quotient and means they did well on an Intelligence
Test. The IQ test was invented in 1905, by a French
psychologist, Alfred Binet. As you know, for a test to have any
“validity” (to mean something beyond speculation) it needs to
have been tested on a lot of people (a large “sample”), and the
IQ test really got a rush during World War I when Robert Yerkes,
a Harvard professor, realizing a captive audience when he saw
one, got permission from the US army to IQ test nearly 2,000,000
recruits.

Most of the abilities measured by an IQ test tend to level off
around age 16. (Some say they’re fixed at birth.) The test
measures such things as factual knowledge, short-term memory,
abstract reasoning and visual-spatial abilities.

“Intelligence is always measured relative to a particular
culture,” says PsychologicalTesting.com. “‘Culture-free’ tests
of intelligence do not exist.” A few examples: Having the
bodily-kinesthetic intelligence to be able to throw a boomerang
accurately is of no practical value if you live in Germany in
2004. Having what it takes to land a plane is of no consequence
unless you should happen to become a pilot.

Being able to predict where oil might be is essential if you’re
a geologist in the oil industry, but not if you’re a chef. What
do they predict? Academic success, school grades, and, according
to one source, about 6% of job success. IQ also correlates with
some “social outcomes”, according to Linda S. Gottfredson,
author of “The General Intelligence Factor.” For a graph, go
here:
http://www.psych.utoronto.ca/~reingold/courses/intelligence/cache
/1198gottfredbox2.html . To read a summary, go here:
http://www.psych.utoronto.ca/~reingold/courses/intelligence/cache
/1198gottfred.html .

Is this “intelligence”? It’s a form of intelligence, but we have
hundreds of different mental “abilities,” and an IQ test
measures only a few.

Your “score” is based on an average. An IQ of 100 is higher than
50% of the people taking the test. An IQ of 130 is higher than
95% of the people taking the test.

The Wechsler IQ tests are generally considered to be the best
available measure and are preferred by the Social Security
Administration. http://www.wvu.edu/~law/clinic/docs/margiqss.pdf
. Incidentally, someone is considered “presumptively disabled on
the basis of mental impairments,” if their IQ is 59 or less, and
an individual with an IQ of 70 “has a 50-50 chance of mastering
elementary school curriculum, and will have a hard time
functioning independently without considerable social support.”
(Source: The General Intelligence Factor,” Linda S. Gottfredson).

ON-THE-JOB?

Check out Gottfredson’s graph re: training style and IQ. For an
IQ range of 70-130, she lists 6 progressive learning styles:

Slow, simple, supervised [70-80] Very explicit, hands-on
[80-95] Mastery learning, hands-on [90-110] Written materials,
plus experience [100-110] College format [110-120] Gathers,
infers own information [115 and above] Occupation? Around 80 -
assembler, food service, aide’s aide Around 100 - clerk,
teller, police officer, machinist, sales Around 115 - manager,
teacher, accountant Around 130 - attorney, chemist, executive

Daniel Goleman and others in the field of what’s called
Emotional Intelligence are busy gathering data that IQ, and even
performance on the SAT, are not the best predictors of success
in life, or happiness, which isn’t a surprise to most of us.
Analogous to money, the complete absence of either is not good,
but the presence of vast quantities of either do not predict
happiness. MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

Enter Howard and his Multiple Intelligences”(
http://www.ericfacility.net/ericdigests/ed410226.html ), because
the standard IQ tests do not measure such things as musical or
artistic talent or physical coordination.

For example, one of Gardner’s intelligences is called
Bodily-Kinesthetic, i.e., “using one’s mental abilities to
coordinate one’s own bodily movements.” An IQ test also does not
measure emotional stability, awareness, or a number of other
important things. As Arakkal Sebastian says in an article about
IQ, there are all too many stories throughout history of very
smart individuals “who nevertheless were incapable of solving
the problem of how to be a human whose actions had [sic: would
have] a positive effect on one’s fellow humans.”

Nonetheless, something called a “g” factor has been gleaned by
comparing one person’s scores across various IQ tests. Attained
through something called “factor analysis,” (see article from
Scientific America -
http://www.psych.utoronto.ca/~reingold/courses/intelligence/cache
/1198gottfred.html ) the g factor seems to measure
“intelligence,” as in ability to deal with cognitively
complexity. Says Scientific American, “More complex tasks
require more mental manipulation, and this manipulation of
information - discerning similarities and inconsistencies,
drawing inferences, grasping new concepts and so on -
constitutes intelligence in action. Indeed, intelligence can
best be described as the ability to deal with cognitive
complexity.” “g” corresponds to mental aptitude (reasoning,
problem solving, abstract thinking, quick learning), rather than
accumulated knowledge, but those correlate. “Cognitive” is our
keyword here. Yes, the world is cognitively complex. However, it
is perhaps infinitely more emotionally complex.

ENTER EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage
your own emotions and those of others for positive outcome.

Emotional Intelligence consists of a wide range of capacities
which enable people to excel, such as intentionality,
creativity, resilience, self-awareness, impulse control,
persistence, and empathy. Four areas of mastery are (1)
Identifying emotions, (2) Using emotions, (3) Understanding
emotions, and (4) Regulating emotions. The EQ-Map® is one
assessment: http:/ inyurl.com/z94t .

According to Daniel Goleman, one theorist among many, but the
one who popularized the concept in his book, Emotional
Intelligence (http:/ inyurl.com/z9ny ), people who possess high
Emotional Intelligence are the people who truly succeed,
“building flourishing careers, and lasting, meaningful
relationships.”

Cognitive intelligence has long been studied. You can see some
of the research on Emotional Intelligence here:

While our IQ is fixed at some point, we can improve and develop
our EQ over our lifespan, i.e., it can be learned. Our EQ in
many important ways facilitates our IQ.

EXAMPLE

If I asked you right now to multiple 11 x 111 in your head, and
to take as long as you need, you probably wouldn’t have too much
trouble using your cognitive intelligence to “solve” this
problem.

But what if Ben Stein asked you that on television, in front of
1,000,000 viewers, and you had 10 seconds and $10,000 was at
stake. This situation could render your cognitive intelligence
dysfunctional if you were not able to handle the pressure,
perform under stress, focus, and prevent “flooding” from anxiety
from disabling your neocortex!

There are many resources available for increasing your Emotional
Intelligence - certified EQ coaches, books and eBooks, distance
learning courses, EQ Learning Labs and teleclasses. Take an EQ
assessment (http:/ inyurl.com/z94t ). Then delight in the fact
that whatever your “score” is, it can be improved.

Please keep in mind that since EQ involves learning emotional
and social skills, you can’t “just” read about it. Read about it
yes, to get the fundamentals and vocabulary, but then work with
someone trained in the field so you can put theory into practice
and get feedback.

Learn about DVD Recorders

What is a DVD Recorder; it as a rule is a disc recorder that permits you to record your favourite free view comedies programs or videos onto re-writable Digital Versatile Discs. They are accessible as either installable drives for PC’s or as standalone components for use in studios or residential theatre systems. When Digital Versatile Disc Systems were first released you could pay anything up to £2000 for a simplistic system, this is today no longer the case.

DVD Systems are currently exceptionally elegant and have entirely taken over the video recorder, which is now more or less in the past. Like all things that include a technology base behind it there are lots of different DVD recorders to opt from. The most chic ones to go for are DVD systems with built in Hard Drives. This is a recording machine but it does not offer viewers to pause & rewind like you would be able to do on live TV. The rational for the Hard Drive in the DVD recorder is so that you are capable to save a lot of television sport programmes to the Hard Drive of which they can also be recoded on a re-writable Digital Versatile Disc. As well as this you can record straight onto Digital Discs.

Various DVD recorders with backup drives usually include an EPG for arranging recordings. There are DVD Systems with Hard backup drives to be had from high quality brands including Sony, Pioneer, Sharp & others. Find top brand DVD Recorders at Digital Direct!

The excellent thing at present is that DVD hard drive recorders have under no circumstances been so kind to your wallet, therefore it’s possible for you to purchase a top of the range system for a very superb price. The market is influenced by the latest machinery, new innovations and product quality, of which these are changing virtually every month.
