On the Love for Electric Bicycles

February 24th, 2010

We’re often nagged by the need to do more exercise but so much can stop us. We witness individuals crowded into gymnasiums doing workouts, and consider : well, I must go to the gymnasium, pay up my membership fee, then get to do some exercise. It just seems like a lot of bother, isn’t there something I can do that’s not going to throw away my precious time - something that’s even pragmatic?

You may then consider cycling, as bicycling is a fantastic way to improve your health. You can bike to work or to the shops, so it’s rather pragmatic. It’s also very cheap - there’s no gasoline called for and the running costs are next to nothing. It’s also eco-friendly. Oh, and it gets you fit too!

However, lots of individuals are reluctant to get a push bike since it’s TOO much exercise. As crazy as it may sound, it could be because they might be elderly, live in a hilly area or suffer from particular ailments that make biking too “hardcore” for their capabilities. And for a few people, it’s not practical biking to work since they will sweat too much because of the efforts of bicycling.

Now it’s time to introduce electric bikes. E-bikes give you a breather on the awful hills simply by turning your hand on the handlebar and letting the electric motor take over - you don’t need to do any peddling then. Then when you’re ready to switch to manual, just let your legs take over. You get modest exercise and clean air without doing yourself in. E-bikes are also very cheap to operate needing only a daily battery re-charge if you cycle about 15 to 22 miles per day, although most people require only a couple of recharges a week as they’re not doing this kind of distance. You can find a local supplier of electric bicycles by browsing on the web.

These days the real cost of purchasing an e-bike have dropped in price, so you can find yourself saving a considerable amount of cash on fuel, bus fares, gym memberships etc. by buying and regularly using an electric bike.

How to Perfect Your Riding Position & Technique

By Ed Pavelka of www.RoadBikeRider.com

Cycling is full of prodigious numbersthe distances ridden, the calories consumed, the tires trashed. Another statistic that can seem astounding is the number of pedal strokes made.

Let’s suppose it takes you six hours to ride a century and you pedal at the rate of 90 rpm throughout. As you cross the finish line, you will be making pedal stroke number 64,800.

Whoa, that’s a lot! But it barely registers on the scale of what happens during a full season. For example, during the year in which I had my biggest mileage total, I figure that I got there by pushing the pedals around approximately 13,340,000 times.

Can you say, repetitive use injury? You can see why cyclists are good candidates, especially if we aren’t pedaling from a nearly perfect position.

Your body and bike must fit together and work together in near-perfect harmony for you to be efficient, comfortable, and injury-free. The more you ride, the more essential this is. If even one thing is out of whack, it’s a good bet that it will cause a problem during thousands of pedal strokes.

Fortunately, it isn’t difficult to arrive at an excellent riding position. But it does take time and attention. You need to be careful with your initial bike set-up, then conscientiously stay aware of your body and the need for occasional refinements. As time goes by, your position will stabilize and you’ll be riding in a smooth groove.
