Black Viola Symbol Of Death And Reserection

April 30th, 2009

Today I was looking out my office window at my back yard at the Black Viola, now they are just a little larger variety of violets which grow prolifically in my yard. I deliberately do not have curtains on my home office windows so I can frequently look out at nature or the nature of my back yard anyway. I have bird feeders next to my window in a tree. Well, anyway this morning I woke up with a stark fear of death stalking me again. Now I know that part of the healing I am doing is rooting out things from my dark side. I have no fear of rooting them out but for I know as I bring them into the light they will just disappear like a sugar cube in water. It is the hiding them that makes one afraid. Well, anyway I was contemplating these little black Violas. Offically they are called Viola Cornuta and commonly Bowles Black Viola. They are quite insignificant as far a show goes but they are truly beautiful in their own right. I was so taken by them that I got up and went outside and picked a small bouquet of them and floated them in a bowl. The unusual color of black of this flower it looks like velvet is suited to it connection to death and resurrection through the my of Attis. Attis is an ancient Turkish God of vegetation, growth and fertility; they grew where his blood spilled. He was the beloved consort of the Goddess Cybele. In his worship the pine tree his symbol were dressed with black Violas. When Attis refused her love, in her rage she unmanned him. All future priests that attended and worshipped Cybele castrated themselves. This is an odd story of contrasts as Cybele and Attis were both symbolized the death and reserection. They were fertility Gods and Goddess mourning always the death of nature in the Fall and the reserection in the Spring. Why would her priests not want to sow their seeds? Perhaps they were sacrificing their fertility in their grief for Attis so he might be born again in the Spring.

Bear with me my mind always goes on these tangents of story telling. I love symbolism and the myths for I find much hidden knowledge over wondering about the archetypes that dwell in the myth and in the human mind.
Because violets are small and insignificant they are often hidden under other plants, they make a good symbol for hidden knowledge. Violets look small and delicate but they are tough try and remove them from your lawn sometime if you don’t believe me. Violets grow in the shade so they are symbols of death, this particular one is black which even brings more symbolism in. However this viola is fragrant. It also has a yellow eye. May be this promises the light of Spring.
I think my terror that comes up around death is about losing control. I just have to be very grateful that this fear is dying and will be reborn now it is brought to the light. It is reborn with new ideas as the viola is reborn in the Spring. Acceptance and understanding of the concept of death is viewed as requisite for the holistic development of a person. The subconsious abhors a puzzle, the hows and wherefores of my fear of death will be revealed in a plain way that I can understand. My meditation on the flower, the small viola, is but a step on the path to enlightenment.

Herbal Alternative for Contact Dermatitis

April 29th, 2009

Whether it is due to an allergic reaction or caused by an irritant, contact dermatitis is no joke. Burdened with severely itchy rashes that leave a stinging sensation, contact dermatitis can really bog any person’s day and interfere with the normal flow of his or her activities. Add to that the fact that contact dermatitis rashes often evolve into unsightly welts and hives in most cases. Dr. Harold Farber, director of the Center For Dermatology, Laser Surgery, and Cosmetics, stresses that a chat with the dermatologist can help with the problem. Drugs like hydrocortisone and/or antihistamines are likely to be prescribed. But what if there is no dermatologist around and the medicine kit does not have the medication one needs? What then? Go green. Herbal alternatives for skin conditions have been around for centuries. Though some are debunked as myths, others have a relative degree of truth to their effectiveness. In case of contact dermatitis, here are the greens one will need to get his or her hands on: Burdock (Arctium lappa) is administered orally in the form of tea or tincture (an herbal concoction with a mix of alcohol). It acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. Burdock also bolsters the immune system. Calendula (Calendula officinalis) can be applied as a topical medication as it has natural antiseptic qualities. It also functions against inflammation. Aloe (Aloe barbadensis) leaves contain gel-like substance that can soothe irritated skin. Applying the gel to the affected area can help in treating contact dermatitis. While the said herbal alternatives are quite effective, the best thing a person who is susceptible to contact dermatitis can do is to avoid irritants and allergens as much as possible.

The prostate enlarges as the years go by and as a result can create several ailments for example trouble in passing water, reduced urinary stream, and also the retention of urine within the bladder. Frequent nighttime urination and even persistent urinary tract inflammation are other problems which may ensue due to prostate gland swelling.

Bipolar Depression

April 27th, 2009

What is Bipolar Depression?

The distinguishing characteristic of bipolar depression, as compared to other mood disorders, is the presence of at least one manic episode. Additionally, it is presumed to be a chronic condition because the vast majority of individuals who have one manic episode have additional episodes in the future. The statistics suggest that four episodes in ten years is an average, without preventative treatment. Every individual with bipolar depression has a unique pattern of mood cycles, combining depression and manic episodes, which is specific to that individual, but predictable once the pattern is identified. Research studies suggest a strong genetic influence in bipolar depression.

Bipolar depression typically begins in adolescence or early adulthood and continues throughout life. Bipolar depression is often not recognized as a psychological problem, because it is episodic. Consequently, those who have bipolar depression may suffer needlessly for years without treatment.

Treatment for Bipolar Depression

Effective treatment is available for bipolar depression. Without treatment, marital breakups, job loss, alcohol and drug abuse, and suicide may result from the chronic, episodic mood swings. The most significant treatment issue is noncompliance with treatment. Most individuals with bipolar depression do not perceive their manic episodes as needing treatment, and they resist entering treatment. In fact, most people report feeling very good during the beginning of a manic episode, and do not want it to stop. This is a serious judgment problem. As the manic episode progresses, concentration becomes difficult, thinking becomes more grandiose, and problems develop. Unfortunately, the risk taking behavior usually results in significant painful consequences such as loss of a job or a relationship, running up excessive debts, or getting into legal difficulties. Many individuals with bipolar depression abuse drugs or alcohol during manic episodes, and some of these develop secondary substance abuse problems. Therefore, it is advisable to treat Bipolar Depression at its early stage

Bikini and Sun Lovers Beware

April 26th, 2009

"It is becoming more and more important that all sun lovers take precautions to avoid excessive exposure to the sun’s harmful rays. Following are some tips to make your sun worshipping both enjoyable and safer."

Many family traditions include a yearly visit to the beach. Tucked away in our memories are the smell of coconut oil, the warmth of the sun and sand mixed with cool beach breezes. However, gone are the days of baby oil and metal sun reflectors, replaced with safer sun practices to preserve our natural skin color and condition. Sun protection comes in a variety of options to include sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hats, sun protective swimwear and cover-ups.

An important part of your beach planning will be your sun protection. Sun tanning and trips to your local tanning salon aren’t the best idea anymore. That’s because both emit harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation that can cause painful sunburn and may eventually lead to skin blemishes, premature aging of the skin, cataracts and other eye problems, weakened immune system and skin cancer. And if the Earth’s ozone layer continues to deplete and the approximate rate of four to six percent per decade there will be more UV radiation reaching our skin.

It is true that light skin is more susceptible to sun damage, however darker skinned people such as African Americans and Hispanic Americans can be affected. Everyone should be educated about the affects of the sun and the steps needed to safer sun exposure.

The easiest way to protect you from the sun is simply by avoiding the sun; the sun’s rays are strongest between 10am and 3pm. Cloudy days may be deceiving as the clouds only block about twenty percent of UV radiation, this is also true when swimming in the water (the UV rays can still reach you).

If you are going to be out in the sun in your bikinis or swimsuits, either sunscreen or sunblock should be used. Both sunscreen and sunblock come in creams, lotions, ointments, gels or wax sticks, and when applied to the skin will reflect, absorb or scatter either all or at least some of the sun’s harmful rays. Currently on the market are some makeup items containing sunscreen (lipstick being one example). Sunscreen products are believed to block a large percentage of harmful UV radiation. The FDA requires that any label of sunscreen products state the sun protection factor (SPF), the higher the number the longer a person is able to stay in the sun before burning. It is recommended to wear at least a sunscreen with SPF 15, the product should also be applied liberally 15 to 30 minutes before going outdoors. The sunscreen should be applied to all areas of skin that will be exposed to include; lips, ears, eyelids (be careful not to get in eyes), neck, nose, scalp (for those with thinning hair), feet, and hands. Children under 6 months should not wear sunscreen (covering their skin is the best bet against sun exposure), as they might be too sensitive to the ingredients. Sunscreen should become a regular habit for children whenever going outdoors.

Sunglasses are a very important part of sun protection. Not only do sunglasses help us see in the glaring sun, but also protect our eyes from sun damage. Price doesn’t matter as long as the glasses are blocking ninety-nine to one hundred percent of UVA and UVB radiation (it should say on the label). Try and select sunglasses that protect your eyes from all angles, a large framed wraparound style is suggested. Don’t forget to put sunglasses on your children as well; they can start wearing sunglasses as early as one year old. It is important to purchase real protective sunglasses for children, not toy sunglasses. Even if you’re wearing sunglasses you might want to put some sunscreen on your eyelids (be careful not to get the sunscreen in you’re eyes), as the sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays not the skin around the eyes.

Hats are an easy and fashionable ways to protect you’re eyes, ears, nose, neck and scalp from the sun. Try and purchase a hat with a three- inch brim all the way around the hat if possible. There are such a wide variety of hats available in styles ranging from lovely straw hats with wide brims, to cotton hats with brims and baseball caps (some with material draping down the sides and back if desired).

Another popular form of sun protection is available in the sun protective swimwear and cover-ups. This swimwear covers the areas of the body most sensitive to sunburn, giving effective sun protection. The swimwear comes in styles similar to a t-shirt with adjoining shorts, and is a great idea especially for children. The swimwear and cover-ups boast a SPF 50 (highest rating for fabric) and most often offers approximately ninety-eight percent sunblock, the nylon-lycra mix is lightweight and fast- drying. There are also sunsuits combined with buoyancy aids (another great idea for children). The sun protective swimwear, t-shirts, cover-ups and hats are available in babies, children and adult sizes. Although the protective swimwear is quite popular it has yet to be approved by the FDA.

Cover-ups should be worn whenever possible if out in the sun. A cover-up can include any lightweight, loose-fitting, long sleeved shirts, skirts, pants or robes that provide protection from the sun. There are toweling robes manufactured that serve both as a towel and a cover-up after swimming. Almost all materials and colors absorb or reflect the sun’s harmful UV rays. However it must be noted that it is suggested to avoid wearing wet clothing in the sun, as the sun’s rays can much more easily pass through wet clothing.

It is important to avoid artificial tanning as much as possible. It has long been a belief that the ultraviolet (UV) rays from tanning beds are harmless as they emit mostly UVA rays and barely any UVB the rays considered to be most hazardous. However it has been found that UVA rays may be the cause of the most serious forms of skin cancer (melanoma). This is scary considering some people use the tanning beds all year long, thus increasing their exposure to the harmful rays at an alarming rate.

An alternative to a real tan may come in one of the self-tanning products available on the market. Self-tanning products are sold in tanning pills, sunless tanning lotions and sprays, cosmetic bronzers and extenders and tanning pills. Through a bit of trial and error you can usually find a product that will produce a desired look from a subtle glow to a deep dark tan. Caution should also be exercised with these self-tanning products. In particular the tanning pills that use carotenoid color additives which are approved as additives for coloring food but not for use in tanning pills, if consumed in high levels they may be harmful. The tanning accelerators using tyrosine have not been FDA approved and should also be used minimally. The bronzers and extenders use color additives that are approved by the FDA and because they wash or wear off quite quickly are quite safe.

Although it’s important to practice caution while being out and about in the sun, your day at the beach or lake can still be a wonderful experience. We just have to take a more careful approach to our sun seeking ways to ensure our future health. So pack away your coconut oil and reflectors, replacing them with sunscreen and great sun protective hats and cover-ups.

Managers and PR: One Thing Is Clear

Managers and PR: One Thing Is Clear

As a business, non-profit or association manager, you
have a clear choice when you set up your public relations.
Arrange your resources to generate a variety of product
and service plugs on radio, and in newspapers and in
magazines. Or, use a broader, more comprehensive and
workable public relations blueprint to alter key external
audience perceptions that lead to changed behaviors -
behaviors you will need to reach your managerial
objectives.

Which is why it also seems clear that your department,
division or subsidiary can fail or succeed depending on
how well you employ a crucial dynamic like this one:
persuade your key external stakeholders with the greatest
impacts on your organization to your way of thinking,
then move them to take actions that help your unit succeed.

Best place to start is with the blueprint itself: People act
on their own perception of the facts before them, which
leads to predictable behaviors about which something can
be done. When we create, change or reinforce that opinion
by reaching, persuading and moving-to-desired-action the
very people whose behaviors affect the organization the
most, the public relations mission is accomplished.

As you can see, because they are important, publicity
placements are still part of the blueprint - they just are not,
and should not be the tail that wags the PR dog.

So, if this approach to public relations is of interest, you
may be amazed at what could happen. Fresh proposals for
strategic alliances and joint ventures; Customers starting to
make repeat purchases, and even prospects starting to do
business with you; welcome bounces in show room visits;
rising membership applications, and community leaders
beginning to seek you out; new approaches by capital givers
and specifying sources not to mention politicians and
legislators viewing you as a key member of the business,
non-profit or association communities.

Who shoulders the work needed to produce such results?
Your own full-time public relations staff? A few folks
assigned by the corporate office to your unit? An outside
PR agency team? No matter where they come from, they
need to be committed to you, to the PR blueprint and to
its implementation, starting with key audience perception
monitoring.

Please keep in mind that simply because someone describes
him/herself as a public relations person doesn’t guarantee
they’ve bought the whole shebang. So by all means make
certain the public relations people assigned to your unit
really believe - deep down — why it’s SO important to know
how your most important outside audiences perceive your
operations, products or services. Make sure they accept the
reality that perceptions almost always lead to behaviors that
can help or hurt your unit.

Layout your plan - your blueprint — for monitoring and
gathering perceptions by questioning members of your most
important outside audiences. Questions like these: how much
do you know about our chief executive? Have you had prior
contact with us and were you pleased with the interchange?
How much do you know about our services or products and
employees? Have you experienced problems with our people
or procedures?

Use professional survey firms in the perception monitoring
phases of your program if you can afford them. But your PR
people are also in the perception and behavior business and can
pursue the same objective: identify untruths, false assumptions,
unfounded rumors, inaccuracies, misconceptions and any other
negative perception that might translate into hurtful behaviors.

Now, set your PR goal, one that aims to do something about
the worst distortions you turned up during your key audience
perception monitoring. It could be to straighten out that
dangerous misconception, correct that gross inaccuracy,
or stop that potentially fatal rumor dead in its tracks.

With your PR goal established, select the right strategy, one
that tells you how to proceed. But keep in mind that there are
only three strategic options available to you when it comes to
handling a perception and opinion challenge. Change existing
perception, create perception where there may be none, or
reinforce it. Since the wrong strategy pick will taste like
mustard on your pancakes, be certain the new strategy fits
comfortably with your new public relations goal. You don’t
want to select “change” when the facts dictate a “reinforce”
strategy.

With that homework complete, write a moving message and
aim it at members of your target audience. Because crafting
action-forcing language to persuade an audience to your way
of thinking is tough work, you need your best writer because
s/he must create some very special, corrective language.
Words that are not only compelling, persuasive and believable,
but clear and factual if they are to correct something and shift perception/opinion towards your point of view leading to the
behaviors you are targeting.

Run it by the entire PR team for impact and persuasiveness.
Then, select the communications tactics most likely to carry
your message to the attention of your target audience. You
can pick from dozens that are available. From speeches,
facility tours, emails and brochures to consumer briefings,
media interviews, newsletters, personal meetings and many
others. But be sure that the tactics you pick are known to
reach folks just like your audience members.

You may decide to unveil it before smaller meetings and
presentations rather than using higher-profile news releases
since a message is often dependent for its credibility on the
means used to deliver it.

Before long, questions about progress will be heard, which
tells you and your PR team to get busy on a second perception
monitoring session with members of your external audience.
You’ll want to use many of the same questions used in the
first benchmark session. Difference this time is that you will
be watching very carefully for signs that the bad news
perception is being altered in your direction.

Should the program begin to slow down, you can always
accelerate matters by adding more communications tactics
as well as increasing their frequencies.

When it comes down to it, you want your new PR blueprint
to persuade your most important outside stakeholders to your way
of thinking, then move them to behave in a way that leads to
the success of your department, division or subsidiary.

And, when you think about it, we are fortunate indeed that
our key stakeholder audiences behave like everyone else -
they act upon their perceptions of the facts they hear about
you and your operation. Leaving you little choice but to
deal promptly and effectively with those perceptions by
doing what is necessary to reach and move your key external
audiences to actions you desire.

Beyond Creativity

April 24th, 2009

Breaking the rules and following your own are advisable at times to create and innovate your own style and discover things. But before doing so, it is necessary however to know what kind of rules you are trying to break and be familiar with the alternatives that you can substitute from the original ones.

Whew! It is just so fun and exciting to explore and try new stuffs that completely according to your own style. Fulfillment and achievement are just two of the rewards that you can get from having things innovated and discovered.

In catalog design, it has to come a long way from the industry’s downscale origins and jam-packed books. With the latest technology that we have plus the aggressive minds unusual use of typography and color make catalogs really look different and trendy.

Catalogs are important to stand out in today’s ever-crowded and critical mailboxes, bear in mind that being different does not necessarily translate into greater sales and profit. Catalog designers have lone been followed many principles in designing simply to sell products.

What you should know to go beyond your limits. First, always place a best seller in the upper right corner of each spread. Whenever readers glance at a catalog from cover to cover their eyes fall to the upper right corner of a spread, so it is better to put strong product there. So placement of items on the catalog matters a lot.

Second, keep the typography simple and limit the number of typefaces you use. Take note that the catalog must be legible, that means no reducing the type to 6 points to help you cram in all the text. Sometimes some elements of the copy need to be represented in type that is bolder or bigger to emphasize and exaggerate to win a sale.

Third, a catalog must always have an order form. It is essential to include a well-designed order form that was easy to fill out and mail, usually with an attached envelope. It is also advisable to use the form as a worksheet to organize their orders before calling or ordering via the Internet.

Forth, be consistent in layouts for it is a mark of excellence. Developing attractive and unique spreads, icons and typographical elements is important in creating an image. You can use colors, backgrounds, or layout format to break up the overall design and style of the catalog. Your aim is to grab the reader’s attention and encourage them to stop and read its content.

Fifth, standard catalog formats are more profitable. Commonly, unique formats attract more the attention or better enhance your brand than a standard full-size, conventional and slim-Jim catalog. It attracts less people with few or no response at all.

Sixth, a full color catalog performs better than one or two color catalog. Four color presentation looks more attractive, grabs more attention and generates more sales that a dull catalog. The choice lies always on the hand of the seller if he wants to improve his business by breaking and bending the creativity of catalog making and see the difference of your own innovations.

Euro Lottery Time: My Passion of Winning the Euro Lottery plus Living a Life of Luxurious Existance for the Rest of My Life

April 23rd, 2009

My friend Adam contacts me on the phone to tell me that he’s discovered some online gambling sites that I must have to check over. I have never really been heavy into gambling, but I figured ok, I may give it a try. Therefore I tested out some poker and black jack, only honestly, they just are not my thing. Then I see these online lottery internet sites and I figure that all over the internet I can take part in all other lotteries around the world. Right Away to me this seems a heap more pleasure, and so I guess I may give it a trial run. To begin with I tried my luck at euro millions, you know a European lottery. I chose my lottery winning numbers and waited and dreamt that I will win the jackpot. I didn’t on that occasion only when the euro lottery results came out; I was highly surprised to realize that I had really come very near to the winning numbers. I tested out a few other world lotteries, but I found that I had come so near the first time on the euro millions, that I simply had to give it another go. Now to date, I haven’t scooped a bucket load of dollars, but, I have won some money, and so I carry on playing the euro millions and picking lotto numbers, hoping to get my big win. I am one of those people who like to think in the likelihood of winning it big, because it is tough to think getting that sort of money any other way.

As for my friend, he still goes on with his passion of online gambling and finds himself at the online casino for at least 60 minutes a day. He likewise has won some money, but it is up and down and the difference is, when you lose at gambling you normally lose a good deal but when you lose at the elottery, it doesn’t cost you very much. I think that the lottery is the only path for me to go and the idea of winning it big and on top of that, it is only costing me simply a couple of bucks “makes it all more appealing”.
