"Why You Must Use The Right Dumbbells For Your Workout&#

March 31st, 2009

A dumbbell exercise program is effective with the right
equipment These days, more so that in decades gone by,
dumbbells are growing in popularity in fitness centers and
health clubs across the United States.

In addition, they are increasingly being purchased by
people who want to include them in their personal gyms at
home so they can conduct a dumbbell exercise program in the
comfort of their own home when it suits them best.

Rubber encased dumbbells are usually the most popular
choice of dumbbells as they offer a myriad of benefits to
the user.

While they may be made from high quality cast iron material
to give the desired weight effect, they are coated with
rubber for added protection, comfort during the dumbell arm
workouts and style - the rubber is available in different
colors.

Not only are rubber encased dumbbells comfortable to use
and safe to use but if you accidentally drop one of them on
the floor they will not damage the floor or other equipment
because of the rubber exterior. Similarly they will also
make a softer thud as opposed to a loud crash with an iron
dumbbell.

Iron weights can make a loud continuous clanking sound and
can be distracting if you are counting repetitions where as
rubber dumbbells allow you to use dumbbells in any way and
even drop them on the floor without making much noise.

This is ideal for conducting dumbell arm workouts in the
home. The rubber used on rubber encased dumbbells is
usually of a very high quality, is odorless, does not crack
and is designed to be extremely durable, so the need for
maintenance is almost non existent.

On the other hand, chrome dumbbells will also be a welcome
addition to any personal fitness room. These dumbbells and
the dumbbell weights are usually polished with high grade
chrome to give optimum functionality.

Chrome adjustable dumbbells are usually sold in 5 pound
increments so you can build and decrease your dumbbell
weights as your fitness program changes. These adjustable
dumbbells give you the flexibility to quickly and easily
perform a variety of exercises according to what you are
doing with your strength exercises.

Dumbbells - whether they are rubber encased or chrome
adjustable dumbbells -can be purchased easily and usually
cheaply from stores or catalogs selling exercise equipment
online.

Online prices are generally lower than those of the
traditional stores and the dumbbells can be sent directly
to your home -sometimes even with free shipping and
insurance.

Becoming Rich in Your Own Way

If you really want to become rich, then begin by evaluating your work habits and work environment. That’s how most millionaires made their first offline million.

According to Dr. Srully Blotnick, a psychologist and consultant who spent over 20 years studying how people became rich, most millionaires didn’t make their money in real estate, the stock market, or waiting for their ship to come in.

They made theirs, instead, through their business or profession. They became so good at their job that they made quite a bit of money. Then, and only then, did they turn to real estate and stocks as sites to invest and grow their money. Even then, their basic business continued to produce the bulk of their gains; their investments usually produced only mediocre results by comparison.

There’s a monumentally important lesson to be learned from the hundreds of millionaires that Dr. Blotnick studied for 20 years. The lesson is this: If you really want to become rich, invest in yourself first; invest in real estate, stocks, and other ventures later. Dr. Blotnick divided this into two stages:

The first takes place when you’re consumed by a business or profession that you enjoy so much that you would do it for nothing. Devlop the passion.

After it pays you enough income, you enter the second stage. This is when you become a bona fide investor. You start thinking of and looking for opportunities to use your surplus income.

To set yourself and your career on track, evaluate yourself by answering these questions about:

> liking your work:

How much do I really like my job?
Does my job bring out the best in me?
Has it caused me to do more than I ever thought I could do? If you answered any of these questions in the negative, consider a job or career change.

> determining if your work is right for you:

How can I tell if I really like my work?
How do I know if I’m doing my work right?
How do I know if I’m doing the right kind of work?

The best way to determine that is to apply these test questions:

What would I do for free?
Am I enjoying my work so much that time seems to fly by?
How would I like the work to be done if I were on the receiving end?
What would I do if I didn’t have to support myself, but did indeed want to work?
What work would I do if my doctor told me that I had only five years more to live?

> considering my financial rewards:

Am I contended with my current income?
Am I in position to influence a change in my income?
What if the work I enjoy doing doesn’t pay very well?

If you’re satisfied with the first two, then I say, “Hang in there! You’re on your way to becoming rich.”

People who became rich did so because they persisted. Only a personal involvement with what you enjoy doing will produce the kind of persistence that propels you out of bed in the mornings and makes you willing to work long and hard.

> investing in yourself:

Am I developing my skills, talents, and abilities?
Have I made a plan that will help me to develop them?
Am I constantly improving my relationship with others?
Do I ask my co-workers for feedback about my performance?

Investing in yourself means developing both of these aspects: the technical knowledge you need in order to do your work effectively and the human relations skills you need in order to work effectively with others.

Mr. Joseph Brooks, CEO at Lord & Taylor, once said, “If you love your work, and do it well, someone will spot that … Let the quality of your work do it for you.”

Conclusion: To become rich, do it your own way. Rely on your own talents, skills, and abilities. Invest them in a business or profession that you enjoy doing very much. Invest in your personal growth and development. Become the very best at what you do at your work even if it pays you little right now. If you really like what you are doing, eventually a fat salary will catch up with your reputation. The bottomline is persistence. Become an expert at relating well with others.

Remember: When you maximize your potential, everyone wins. When you don’t, we all lose.

BECOME A SURVIVOR: HOW TO FIND PEACE OF MIND FOLLOWING LIFE’

March 29th, 2009

In the United States, about 51% of women will experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime, be it domestic violence, fires, motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, or terrorism. In the aftermath of tragedy, we must all learn how to be more resilient “take charge” survivors.

Attitude is vital to recovery. How one views a situation influences emotional and physical reactions. Although a catastrophe is often a shocking experience, it is imperative to put a crisis into perspective. When there is no control over what the environment offers, the only alternative is to adapt to the situation with as much flexibility as possible. This is not easy, but most great leaders rise to the occasion in adversity. Winston Churchill once said, “Move quickly through a crisis.” Just imagine how your hero/role model might deal with such a trauma.

Cultivating a sense of humor can help in building confidence. Other methods include spiritual support through prayer, meditation, or the power of positive thought. Above and beyond these personal response styles, it is always important to draw strength from others. Support systems are critical to survival. Social support is essential to healthy functioning and successful recovery after a disaster.

Everyone deals with life’s turmoil differently. To avoid becoming a victim of a catastrophe, choose a coping strategy that will work best with your own personal style.

THINGS TO DO OVER TIME: The following actions and strategies aid the healing process in the aftermath of a disaster:

1 Avoid major life decisions that can be dealt with later. For example, if your home was destroyed in a fire, focus on the immediate response, such as contacting your insurance carrier, rather than worry about long-term living arrangements.

2 Make a plan: What is your goal? What do you need to achieve it? Who can help? Prioritize what needs to be done 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

3 Fill your life with music and art. These creative gifts provide “food for the soul.”

Become a Survivor/Page 2

4 If you are religious, celebrate gratitude for blessings through prayer.

5 Take breaks or quiet moments. Go to the movies or do some light reading.

6 Eat pure foods and drink plenty of water. Avoid self-medication, alcohol, and drugs.

7 Stay in touch with friends and family. Communicate and reach out for support.

8 Pets can provide easy comfort. Play with pets, adopt one, or volunteer at an animal shelter.

9 Find something to laugh about each day.

10 Let go of emotional baggage from the past and forgive others.

11 Take walks, exercise, or meditate to reflect on the positive aspects of life.

Try this relaxation/meditation technique:

Progressive Relaxation: Tighten muscle groups one section at a time. Then, take a deep breath. Release the tightness in each muscle group during the exhale breath.

Arms: Clench hands, tense biceps and triceps, tighten your elbows, then release

Legs: Tighten your buttocks, push down on your heels, tighten leg muscles, then release

Head: Clench jaw, furrow eyebrows, then release

THOUGHTS AND ATTITUDES: A healthy outlook on life makes full recovery more achievable:

1 Challenge negative beliefs. Replace such thoughts as, “I always have bad luck…nothing will better from now on…everything is going wrong,” with, “Is there any real reason to think that…maybe things will change for the better.”

2 Adjust self-talk. Convert negative messages into positive ones, for example, replace “I’ll never get through this,” with “I can do this, but it’s okay to feel scared.”

3 Use previous ordeals that have been successfully overcome as a “power base.”

4 Consider alternative outcomes for worst-case scenarios, for example, “I can still see my friends, I can enjoy the little things in life.”

5 Imagine how this event will be viewed in the future, remembering how things do change over time.

SEEKING PROFESSIONAL HELP

Remember that there are many situations when you should seek further help. If you have medical symptoms, call a licensed physician. If you experience acute medical symptoms or have been exposed to a toxic substance, seek emergency medical services by calling 911. For a variety of other symptoms, such as acute stress, sleep disturbances, suicidal thoughts, and/or extreme anxiety or panic, seek help from a physician, psychiatrists, or mental health professional. Use other resources such as FEMA, insurance carriers, disaster relief organizations, and licensed financial advisors to address financial and/or technical needs.

Mexico The 51st State? No Way Jose!

March 28th, 2009

My friends think that what I do is easy. They think that writing about events and offering reasoned commentary is something that anyone can do. And believe me, they try. Little do they realize that what I do, again offering reasoned commentary, is actually harder than it looks!

Yes, I know that there are many political hacks on the left out there that think what I write about is absolute gibberish and that my commentary is not at all reasoned but hey its their prerogative to be wrong. After all, if they were right I wouldn’t have the nice little revenue stream generated talking about their psychobabble that I have.

So I was approached by a friend of mine who said to me “I want to write an article for your site that is going to solve the immigration problem!”

My interest was piqued. But I was wary since right off the bat he framed the argument incorrectly calling it an “immigration problem” and not an “illegal immigration problem”. After all, I know how to solve the “illegal” immigration problem. Simply enforce the border and deport the criminals caught coming here illegally.

“Do tell,” I prompted knowing full well that the “plan” that he was about to divulge was bound to be more complicated than necessary.

“It’s simple,” he said, “we need to make Mexico the 51st St…”

I didn’t even let him get the word “State” out before I stopped him. I’ve already heard this argument and it is a terrible one. But the two of us had a discussion that made him realize that what I do is not as easy as simply saying the first thing that comes into my mind and calling it a good idea.

The plan was that if we made Mexico the 51st State then we could accomplish several things. First, take control of Mexico and “modernize” the country. Secondly, and most “brilliantly” eliminate the U.S. Mexico border all together thus removing the need to secure it. Third, reduce the size of the United States southern border to about 200 miles because it would now border Guatemala instead. Fourth, give the United States more domestic oil since we already get so much from Mexico as it is.

Walla! That was the plan!

Certainly much more complicated than say, enforcing the border and deporting the illegals! In case you could not tell that was meant sarcastically.

I say one thing to this plan. No way Jose!

First of all Mexico would never go for it. There is far too much political power that would be given up by Mexican politicians.

Second of all there is far too much corruption in Mexico. You think Chicago on Election Day is corrupt? Ha! Check out Mexican politics!

Third, I know this sounds like a good idea to people that have visited the resort towns in Mexico but if you have gone off the beaten path and ever seen the real poverty that is rampant in Mexico you would think twice about it. Even giving the socialists here in America and their Democratic dupes that many automatic new additions to the welfare roles would be insane! Talk about ending any chance we have about turning our sinking ship around.

And who will pay for all those new mouths that need the social spending that has become entwined in our society? You, me and every other American with a good job that’s who.

Fourthly, do you really think the environmental wackos here in the States would let us keep drilling for oil in our new State? You’ve got to be dreaming! We have a hard enough time drilling in Alaska!

And lastly yeah, Mexico is poor but Guatemala is even poorer. The last thing we need is to put a country worse than Mexico on our southern border. Trading one problem for another doesn’t make you any headway.

After explaining this to my now awestruck friend who had just been hit with several sledgehammers to his plan that he hadn’t even considered he agreed that my original plan was much better, simpler and effective. And he also agreed that what I do is certainly not something that any average Joe like him could do.

So it’s a good thing that I am here and it’s a darn good thing I am up to the task.

The Options In Watches

March 28th, 2009

Watches come in all shapes and sizes. Their main purpose is to tell time. They are now full of different options and features. When choosing which watches to wear it is fun and interesting to try on different choices and find the one that fits your style the best. But, what is there available in watches to consider? Let’s explore the options.

The standard watches offer the function of telling time. No harm in choosing this type because it is the least expensive yet quite functional type. It does its job after all!

Another feature that is nice is waterproof. Watches that are waterproofed have a protective covering on them. We all get caught in rain showers and none of us want to ruin our watch just because we get wet.

Watches can be purchased in a digital or a standard clock face. The difference is obvious. It is often more professional and businesslike to have watches that have a standard clock face on them. But, the digital can often help track things down to the second.

This stop watch feature is a real use when it comes to sports. It will pinpoint occurrences right down to then tenth of a second.

One of the coolest features in watches are those that have heart rate monitors. This is excellent when you are exercising. Most of the time, you will want to get your heart rate to a certain level during exercise. This feature on watches can help you know when you have reached that goal and how long you stay there.

Watches are also fashion accessories. They can match an outfit or serve the same purpose as other jewelry. They don’t have to be about the features but about the look. And, the brand is often very enticing as well! For those who love a good looking watch, check out the options that are available online. You’ll love the selection of options and you’ll love shopping for the best price as well. Watches serve many purposes, but we all need them to know what time it is, right? Why not make your next purchase one that is fashionable and full of the latest features as well?

Green Acres (DVD) Review

March 18th, 2009

A spin-off of the CBS program Petticoat Junction (1963), Green Acres surpassed its predecessor in audience popularity - spending four of its six seasons as a Top 20 Nielsen-rated program. Its family-friendly humor puts Green Acres in the same nostalgic category as shows like The Andy Griffith Show, back when TV sitcoms were all about humor and not as serious as they would later become with the introduction of 1970s stalwarts MASH and All In The Family. The brainchild of creator Jay Sommers, writer for shows such as The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet and Petticoat Junction (where Green Acres characters Sam, Doris, Fred, and Arnold make their first appearances), Green Acres’ unique brand of comedy lives on through a successful and ongoing syndication run, and its catchy theme song even captured the pop culture for a second time when Old Navy incorporated it into one of their trademark clothing commercials…

Green Acres centers around the life of a wealthy Manhattan attorney, Oliver Wendell Douglas (Eddie Albert), and his elite socialite wife Lisa (Eva Gabor). When Oliver gets a hankering to live out his childhood dream of operating a farm, conman Eustace Haney (Pat Buttram) offers him the deal of a lifetime. Only the deal of a lifetime turns out to be a 160-acre dump in the fictional town of Hooterville. Nevertheless, Oliver sets out to turn the farm into a rural gem, while Lisa is reluctant to leave her life of privilege in New York. Hired hand Eb Dawson (Tom Lester) helps out the Douglas family, and Sam Drucker (Frank Cady), a carryover from Petticoat Junction, runs the local general store. But the true life of the show emanates from neighbors Fred (Hank Patterson) and Doris Ziffel (Fran Ryan) and their adopted son - a prized pig named Arnold who displays many human-like traits. In time, Lisa learns to love the people of Hooterville, trying her best to bring sophistication to the backwoods region (and while still making use of her Manhattan wardrobe)…

The Green Acres DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the series premiere “Oliver Buys a Farm” in which New York attorney Oliver Douglas decides to live out his dream of living on a farm. So, without telling his wife, he quits the law firm of Felton, O’Connell, Clay, Blakely, Harmon, Dillion & Pasteur (whew!) in favor of a rundown tract of land in rural Hooterville. When his wife Lisa sees the farm, she goes ballistic… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include “You Can’t Plug in a 2 with a 6″ in which Oliver must continually remind Lisa never to use an appliance(s) that will push the generator over a 7 on the power scale, and “Lisa Bakes a Cake” in which Lisa decides to bake a cake and ends up with a twenty pound cake…
